The Bang Bang Theories

Self Reminder

I’ve embarked on a Plant Journey, because 1. they are good for the air quality in the house and 2. I’ve had a stuffy nose all the time and every single day and 3. my nose is so stuffy all the time, I am considering that I’ve developed a late-in-life cat allergy and 4. I have been de-cat hairing my bedroom on a semi-regular basis, to no avail and 5. I bought a bedroom air purifier but I’m not sure it’s having any impact at all and 6. I’ve finally reminded My Mister enough times to buy a fresh furnace filter and I *think* he changed it and I’m not quite as stuffy today as I have been and lastly, 7. why is life so hard.

I picked up this spider plant for my bedroom. Spider plants are 1. tough to kill, supposedly and 2. don’t require a lot of light, in fact, they excel without direct light, which is perfect for my house which is cave-y – I don’t have a lot of good, natural light which is one of the reasons I don’t have many houseplants and 3. is non-toxic to cats. because they will eat ’em.

Dory was immediately interested.

I’ve had it in the bedroom for a couple-ish weeks so far, and in passing, I’ve noticed it’s looking a little…. less lively.

Leaves are browning. Leaves are yellowing. She’s just looking … unhappy to be here.

Today I gave it a three-minute pruning, but then I second-guessed if I’m supposed to cut the dead leaves or pull ’em, have I been overwatering it or underwatering it, or have the cats been working on killing it. I don’t know.

I finally turned to Almighty Google and it seems it’s either too dry so I have to spritz it, or maybe I overwatered it, but I don’t recall watering it since I’ve had it, so I don’t know.

I don’t know shit about it, any more than I did before I asked the interwebs. One suggestion was to take it out of the pot and check the roots for rot, and fix all that and repot it and I’m not doing all that. I’m just not. It’s just. so. much to know.  I briefly – briefly – considered digging up the earth outside and planting a garden this summer and this spider plant has helped me realize that’s a fool’s mission. No, me. No.

Reader, today was kind of a bust of a day, for a Saturday. I had intended on an early-up, but instead I was in a good sleep and just let it keep on, and so I missed my morning aerobics class and I just never got back on track today. Ran errands and sat too long on the couch and ate vanilla cake and basically nothing bad happened, but I was also unmotivated and nothing interesting happened, either.

Reminder to self: I only get 52 Saturday’s a year. Do better with them, Me.
